Poems:

BEYOND TODAY
By: maleniegaspar

If we could see beyond today
As God can see,
If all the clouds should roll away
The shadows flee,
Over present grief’s we would not fret,
Each sorrow we would soon forget,
For many joys are waiting yet,
For you and me.

If we could know
Beyond today
As God do know,
Why dearest treasures pass away
And tears must flow,
If we could see, if we could know
We often say,
But God in love a veil that throw
Across our way.

Mahal Kita, Mahal Mo’y Iba
By: “Kind Girl” Bembz

Kay pait ng katotohanan,
Na maging sampal at aking kabiguan.
Sa pag-ibig na ‘di maintindihan.
Na gawa ng puso kong hibang.

Bakit umibig sa isang tulad mo.
Kahit alam kong ‘di maari ito.
Dahil sa katotohanang mahal mo’y iba,
At sayo ako’y walang halaga.

Kahit mahal mo’y iba.

TUNAY NA KALIGAYAHAN
Ni: maleniegaspar

Ako’y iyong nilikha sa mundong ito,
Na may sariling pangarap at mithiin;

Oh! Aking Panginoon na makapangyarihan!!!

Sosyal Daw Sila!
By: Bembe

Akala nila’y sikat sila pag-nakatama.

Iyong Binuksan . . .
By: Bandola A.

Ilang panahon din ang lumipas
Matapos masaktan at sarado ang puso
Dami na akong nagawang pagkakamali
Masaya man ang paghihigante ko

Di ko man masabi
Ako’y naghihintay sa iyong pagbabalik
Nais kong malaman mo,
Ako’y nananabik na makita kang muli
Di ko man maamin sa’yo
Pero ikaw ang lalaking nagpabukas sa aking puso.

Intimate Friends . . .
By: Alicia B.

Almost all the time . . .
Almost all the moment . . .
The secrets, emotions, happiness and failures
That we’ve shared,
Are my great treasures within my heart.

We’re obviously close to each other
Sometimes I get flopping at my side
You’re always there
You take me with your care.
That’s why I love you dear.

Intimate friends, I owe you
We believe that nothing can make life
Any sweeter than our friendship
In the end we never fail
To remember that still.

You’re my sincere friends
You’re always telling the truth
Even it hurt sometimes
But it’s okey . . .
Because I know your concern about my well being

Our friendship will stay no matter what
You’re the persons to whom I count on and would never leave me
The sharing, the care and love
In the deepest part of our hearts
Nothing can change it through the years

The Real Me . . .
By: Glory May T. Aguilar

I may be slow
But I’m sure in almost everything I do.
I may be weak
But through my weakness, I find strength
I may act like a child
But I’m mature when thinking
I may be sarcastic
But I only say what I feel.

I may look simple
But that simplicity hides my innermost kindness
I may posses a captivating smile
But it only covers the worries I hide
I may look happy
But my sentiments are deep within me
I may look ugly
But the real beauty is inside me.

I may be impatient yet caring
Sensitive but loving
Strict but approachable
And moody but fun to be with

I am only human with unlikable characters
Showing who really am I
I may be what others think of me
But only God knows . . . the real me.

The Other Sides of Me!
By: Grace C. Quialquial

Whoever can tell?
Who really I am and what truly I feel
I guess their just little
Those who love and accept me as well.

I may be an introvert person
Trying to hide my imperfection
Afraid to do some wrong action
But I’m a lady with a great ambition.

I may not posses a strong personality
And acquire a captivating beauty
But one thing I can be proud of to anybody
They can have me when they needed me badly.

I am even misjudged by many
They say I am strict, not approachable, and moody.
But if they’ll get to know me deeply
They will see . . .
The other sides of me.

Who Am I?
By: Ulysses Intua

Oh glittering eyes of my humble home
Thou comest a child, Ulysses in his throne.
And come on earth like a common man,
But should the kindly deeds refuse to his own.

Behold the early childhood’s happy days.
Thy face trembling in precious tears.
Enchanting memory I see once more,
The spot for which my heart beats no more.

To thee I cease not to sigh
I learned and call to the sky
Come back gentle hours I yearn
Come back as birds return

Thou I saw a wondrous storm
Where I seat hide and morn
For thy heart beats high
As realm makes me cry.

By: Luzviminda Ubalde & Grace Quialquial

“Be a good role model to all the students because the success of leadership depends on you,” thus Mr. Herminigildo P. Dela Peña, Vice President – Academic Affairs, Aces Colleges System, challenged the new set of Supreme Student Council (SSC) officers during its induction last July 27, 2008 at ATC Gym.

“A true leader is determined, firm, open-minded to any possibilities, and have a great perseverance to face whatever challenges as he mediates the students and the administration,” he stressed.

He further emphasized that a true leader knows the costumers’ need and wants and learned to treat others fairly as he desires to be treated. He also highlights the importance of making decisions even if it may not be the best one. “It’s better to make a wrong decision than to have no decision at all,” he said.

SWM Implementation:

Solid Waste Management Implemented
By: Solitaire Ramos & Glory May Aguilar

With the assistance of the Local Government Unit of Tagum City, a Solid Waste Management and Clean Air Act symposium was held last July 30, 2008 at Aces Tagum College.

All the Acesians were obliged to attend the said event which was facilitated by Mr. Alvin S. Matildo, School In-Charge of SWM. According to the organizers that the purpose of having such forum is to educate the students on proper waste disposal together with the responsibilities and penalties for violating the law.

Engineer Elias M. Ramos discussed the origin of the SWM Law. He said that it was based on Republic Act 9003 entitled “Philippine Ecological Solid Waste Act” which was implemented by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo last January 26, 2001.

This program was initially implemented in the hospitals last June 1, 2005 and in schools in January 1, 2006 and then followed by different establishments last July 1, 2006.

Engr. Ramos mentioned that 101,000 kilos of garbage per day here in Tagum City were collected before but after they conducted an information drive, it goes down to 14,000 kilos of garbage per day which was gathered.

On the other hand, Republic Act 8749 known as Philippine clean Air Act of 1999 was promulgated to achieve and maintain healthy air for all Filipinos. What can you do to achieve the ends of clean air act? The speaker mentioned ways to help maintain the cleanliness of air. First, maintain your vehicle, keep it working well. Second, do not burn garbage. Third, do not smoke.

Moreover, he also informed everyone that smoking was banned last May 25, 2001 in public areas, school, private and public offices. This was made for everyone in order to feel the freshness of air not only for us but for our next generations. #

Feature Story:

Aces Tagum College on the Road to Progress
By: Michael M. Pateres

Officially opened in 1995 to 90 vocational students, Aces Tagum College (formerly known as Aces Technical Institute of Tagum, Inc.), it is now a complete higher educational institution recognized by the Commission on Higher Education and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. Years have passed and ATC continues to fulfill its mission of producing quality students who are persons of competence, commitment, and conscience. Students also witnessed the changes and progress happening in the school.

With the efforts and collaboration of the school’s administration, faculty, staff and the entire community, the ATC’s clienteles – its students are provided with the kind of education needed to see things in a wider vision and positive perspective.

ATC is really on its road to progress. With the addition of facilities for students’ use, they are given more avenues for learning aside from the usual lectures inside the classroom. This school year, a new school building is started to be built and other facilities, the FV Millennium Building 2. Faculty members were sent to different seminars and workshops to keep them abreast with the latest trends in teaching, thus enabling them to become better propellers of the learning experiences of the students.

Students were given more opportunities to compete outside and see where they are in the whole picture. “Bacons” were brought home from these outside competitions; not only that, sometimes even the “hams” and entire pork were brought home.

With the support of the school administration, unwavering efforts of our competent teachers, undying cooperation of our dear parents and our hard working students, everything is going strong. We are provided with the right values that we must apply not only in school but everywhere we go. And for the coming years, more changes will occur in this college; improved, disciplined, well-educated students and global competitive ones will come. This shows that Aces Tagum College as part of the Aces Colleges System is truly on the road to progress. #

Deep Thoughts:

Early Marriages – Joy or Sorrow?
By: Solitaire G. Ramos

We are brought again into certain social issues back into the spotlight, the most prominent being, early marriages. Allegedly, some females marry and conceive children when they are as young as 13. This quite apart from the related issues of forced marriage and polygamy has scandalized many people and is often cited as an abuse itself.

Therefore, I think the question of early marriage deserves its own treatment, least we Catholics get carried off by media presuppositions and the minds of popular opinion.

The demise of early marriage is a significant cause of the cultural immorality that surrounds us today. Most people are not particularly zealous for virtue, even in the best of times. Yet, they can be entried by social morns to live generally moral lives and one of the most important of these norms is a culture of early marriage. By “early” I do not mean 13 necessarily, but an age of 15 – 22 for most people and I belong, that is when the hormones are naturally raging and they are raging for the natural purpose of finding and helping a spouse.

Here, let’s face the fact, the median age for marriage has now reached 25 for women and 27 for men. The median age for intercourse is still about 17. As a result, today’s women averaging twenty, obviously, prefer the trend toward late marriages because it results in high rates of promiscuity.

Younger moms and dads are likely be more nimble at child-rearing as well, less apt to be exhausted by toddlers’ perpetual motion, less creaky-in-the-joints when it is time to serve from the monkey bare.

I could say with assurance that younger parents will also be more patient with boys-will-be-boys smash into and les likely than weary 40 – something to beg pediatricians from drugs to control supposed pathology. Humans are designed to reproduce in their teens and they’re potentially very good at it. That’s why they want it so much.

Spiritual Side of the Story!

Help in Daily Living
By: Maria Lenie Gaspar

How do you describe our world today? Of course, you will certainly say Highly Technological, following the fad of fashion addiction. How about the humanity? Well, you would absolutely say spirited, dignified, engage in chastity, workaholic, and liberated. We are totally engage of our earthly living, without thinking if what is the main reason why we are here on earth. Because we are foolhardily influenced by the booming works of our era today, we want to make things done immediately, rest a while then sleep, tomorrow would be another day. But in this thought, let us feel an inner persuading within us we go and comprehend thoughts that lift up soul and spirit in searching right tract.

We forgot some aspects of our life to become whole. Time for God is often low on our priority lists. As we become better acquainted with our heavenly Father trough His word, worship becomes a passion, not merely a command to obey. And while it should be a daily habit, it is also important to set a side a specific time each week to worship the Lord with others. Personal worships help to prepare our hearts for collective worship.

Prayer is an important part of our daily life. Through prayer, we ask God to give us the bodily and spiritual food that we need everyday. Through prayer, we entrust to God our home and our family, and promise Him our love and fidelity. That is why we need to pray always. In Psalms 29:2, we are reminded to “worship the Lord in the beauty of Holiness.” Because He is holy, we must take a careful look at our lives in the light of God’s word to ensure that unconfused sin does not make us unacceptable in His presence.

In addition, prayer is a time to put forth a vision of how we would like our lives to be and affirm that we have what necessary to realize that vision. Because a day without prayer for the spirit is liked a day without food for the body. And the other help for our daily living is to apply some rules of life found in the different scripture of the Holy Bible. Like being assured of daily prayers known by our heart and mind even it is short. Observed on Sunday and holidays of obligation. Don’t associate with evil persons. Avoid listening to or telling bad stories. Avoid looking at incident pictures. Avoid reading improper magazines or books, and control every immodest desire.

Most of all, observe the law of our Almighty God, and be a good follower of his word which is written in the Holy Bible. That is our daily bread.

True Love?

I love You – Really?
By: Joshua Balagot

“I LOVE YOU,” someone whispers. But what does he mean? What is he trying to say? What is love anyway? If someone asked you to define love, what would you say?

Today, the word love is tossed around loosely and far too casually. The phrase I love you can now mean “I have feelings for you”, “I admire you”, or “I want to go bed with you.” But is this the real love?

Love, real love in the context of marriage, is a rock-solid, unwavering, undying commitment to care for, enjoy, and build up your mate. Within the security of this total commitment, intimacy and vulnerability- the keys to excitement and fulfillment in marriage- have a chance to grow and flourish.

Modern society is confused about love. Motion pictures and TV productions often portray love as man meets woman, they are physically attracted to each other, they have sex, and they enjoy each other’s company for a time, then get tired of each other and split up, leaving behind two hurt people and often, some devastated children.

Sex without marriage and committed love makes vulnerable without the under girding support of trust. It feels good, but it is cheap because it is based on a fleeting feeling and not on a deep commitment. It destroys trust.

Real love says a different set of events. First comes loving commitment, then marriage, then sexual intimacy. Commitment and trust are the foundational stones to a wonderfully romantic, intimate, and fulfilling marriage. They give you the freedom to grow and to explore your relationship without the fear of rejection and abandonment. They are the ingredients of true love.

The perfect example of this true love is the love of God to us. Pure commitment, pure acceptance, doing and giving only the best things for the ones He loves.

So next time you say “I love you,” think first what you really meant. Assess yourself if you are ready for the commitment- a lifetime commitment.

How Should You Like To Be Remembered?
By: Rewyn Manuel

When you hear this question, what comes to your mind? Do you believe that you will be remembered as a good individual or a worst one? Would your friends love to remember you when you are gone or just put you into vain? The answer lies on your present actions that you have shown to your family, relatives, friends, close companions, and to everyone. If you were to be asked, how would you answer the question?

This question was raised to the students of Aces Tagum College and here are some of the outstanding answers we gathered.

“I am a strict looking, unapproachable but it’s my nature and this all I want to say, “What you see is never always what you get. Judge me? Well, it depends on what you see. But knowing me? It is your creativity to look deeper, peel whatever covers, so you could see, because deep within me is what made me human.”
- Yvonne D. Pollohan, BSC 1

“The older I become, the more I realized how important it is to hope than despair.”
- Jonathan S. Arañas, PCO 1

”I want to be remembered as a person who used to be nobody, yet because of my experiences, I have become somebody.”
- Ruellyn Mae P. Lubiano, PCO 1

“For I don’t pretend just to flatter someone.”
- Daisy B. Peralta, PCO 1

“Life offers a lot of discouraging trials, but those were to fortify us and to help us in widening our minds in accepting the realities of life.”
- Amelyn O. Espinosa, BSC 1

“When I was a child, how I wish to grow up and fall in love, but when I grow up and fall, how I wish to be a child again, because it’s easier to heal a broken knee than a broken heart.”
- Ruby V. Delos Santos, BSIT 1

“Even if they say bad things to you when you are with them, but if you’re gone, the things that you don’t expect them to remember, they will surely keep on reminiscing it.”
- Jaypee I. Llanda, BEED 1

“A duct in a pond is calm and careless but what you don’t see under the water is stressed and struggling feet. Lesson? What you see is not always what is seems.”

Humility Brings Great Gains!
By: Luzviminda Ubalde

In the cool year ending of 1987, a humble man was born in November 23. Since then, he really longed to gain the highest possible educational attainment his family can have.

This humble man was happy in going to school everyday. Though the distance is quiet very far from his home, he kept his faith stronger with full confidence that he can make it to the top until he graduated in his elementary years.

During summer time, he was striving to save money to be able to continue his studies in high school. At an early age, he worked in the market where he sold goods and wet products. Through that experience, he learned to become independent.

Time has come when he needed to be separated from his family and friends. He was sad but gentleness moved him to make the best out of the difficult situations he faced.

He was a bright man who learned things quickly. His bright minds and gentleness made his teachers happy. He was serious in his studies though many obstacles come in his way. He kept on striving just to survive and win the game of life.

He was financially unstable which caused him to work every Saturday and Sunday in the market. He needed to wake up as early as 3:00 o’clock dawn to work. This was his non-school routine. The situation was very difficult to handle but he was really brave in achieving his goals.

After he graduated in high school, he never planned to go to college anymore but good opportunities came when his teacher encouraged him to take the TESDA scholarship exam and it’s a blessing for he passed the said test.

It was in May 23, 2005 when he landed in Tagum City without knowing where to stay. With this, he decided to ask favor from his neighbor in Tagum City Public Market to work as a laborer who sold banana cues and juice. He slept in their store and suffered patiently. He overcame the coldness of the night for two and a half months. Until his another neighbor saw him and offered a good favor. So, he worked with them in the fish outlet in the said market. He woke up at 3:00 o’clock dawn to sell fish to their costumers and then, went home at 7:30 in the morning to do the house chores and afterwards, he studied his lessons. He attended his classes in the evening at Aces Tagum College with a course of Automotive Technology. This was his routine until he graduated with recognitions.

All these experiences made him stronger and determined to pursue his dreams in life. “Hope and courage are two bright diamonds in the crawl of success,” this guiding principle made him cope all those hardships in his life.

Mr. Ian P. Juntilla, the humble man who is now an Automotive Instructor of Aces Tagum College and at the same time, a second year education student. He is good role model to us as a young person in winning his missions in life.

TESDA to Pursue TechVoc Programs in Mindanao
By: Michael M. Pateres

Technical-vocational training programs of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Mindanao will continue as have been programmed for the rest of the year despite the sensitive conflict situations.

This assurance of continuity in the delivery of TechVoc programs and services in Mindanao was made by Secretary Augusto “Boboy” Syjuco, TESDA director general

Technical-vocational training programs, adds Secretary Syjuco, are available in four training modalities, namely, school-based, center-based, enterprise-based and community-based programs.

Assessment and certification of workers’ competencies will also be pursued by TESDA in Mindanao. To encourage more middle-level workers to sit for skills assessment and certification, the free assessment service of TESDA (FAST) will be made available to them.

Scholarships under the PGMA-Training for Work Scholarships and Private Education Students Financial Assistance Program (PESFA) are available to Mindanaons. The scholarships, either full or partial, pay for the training costs for finishing courses in high demand jobs in the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector and other industries with critical skills requirements.
In the wake of the current peace and order situation in Mindanao, Secretary Syjuco established a crisis management system for Mindanao to insure continuity in the delivery of training services in convergence with TESDA partners.

Education Department In Action:

Education Dept. Heads 2 School Events
By: Luzviminda Ubalde

For the first time, the Education Department of Aces Tagum College took the lead in celebrating the Nutrition Month and Buwan ng Wika culminating activities this year.

According to Mrs. Lilia M. Sugaran, Chairperson of Education Department, that for the previous years, the education headed the celebration of Buwan ng Wika only because the nutrition month activity was handled by the HRM/BSHRM department. “We were advised by the President to encourage our future teachers to practice handling big school programs for their future professions”, she added.

Dr. Francisco P. De la Peña Jr., President/CEO of Aces Colleges System, confirmed that the new arrangement was initiated to train the education students to administer and lead the said events by themselves. He further stressed that these students will not experience much hardships anymore in the field because they were exposed already in handling such activities, personally.

In addition, Mrs. Sugaran said that it was a good avenue for the students to actively participate to such events. “As we have seen before, only the contestants from the department participated in those celebrations, but now all of them take their share in showing their talents and abilities,” she added.

The said annual school festivities were a plain presentation only without any contests being done. Last July 27, 2008, the school celebrated the nutrition month culminating activity which showcases the presentations of the education students including the display of different fruits and vegetables.

Mr. Alfonso R. Ventures, College Dean, urged everyone to make it a habit to eat fruits and vegetables. He even put emphasis on the word HEALTH and its meaning which are the following: H for happiness because healthy people are happy people, E – energy, they act promptly, efficiently and always ready for effective action, A – alertness, healthy people are always vigilant, alive, prepared and wide awake for action, L - longevity which constitutes for longer life, T – thriftiness, careful in management of their resources, spend for a reason, H – Habit, healthy people always exercise, maintain proper diet and self discipline in times of eating. “Follow this pattern the soonest possible and you will stay healthy,” he emphasized.

On the other hand, different talents of the Acesians were shown during the Buwan ng Wika celebration last August 20, 2008. These include Ethnic Dance, Balagtasan, Isahan at Dalawahang Tinig, Interpretatibong Sayaw, Modern Dance, Mukhang Bayani, and the presentation of different tribes in Mindanao.

Mr. Rewyn Manuel and Ms. Rogen Lagmay hosted the nutrition month celebration while the Buwan ng Wika was hosted by Mr. Jefferson Acedo and Ms. Glory May Aguilar. #

Points of You:

In Contact With Others
By: Glory May T. Aguilar

Good communication starts with knowing yourself well enough to know what a healthy relationship with people looks like. To achieve this, we must have a good interpersonal communication skill.
Interpersonal communication skills are tools we use to let others know what we think, feel, need, and want. And they know how we let others know what we understand, what they think, feel, need, and want. Sometimes, we tend to be careless of what we say to others without knowing that they are hurt. We tend to ignore them without knowing how they feel, and sometimes force them to do something they don’t want. To avoid these, all we need to do is to be sensible enough so that we won’t hurt somebody’s feelings.
In addition, each one of us has different strategies for communicating in different situations. As a result, there is a very real possibility that when two of us get together, there are certain circumstances in which we are less effective of communicating with each other than we would like. By increasing our repertoire of interpersonal communication skills, we can increase our overall effectiveness and good communication with others.
Building a good relationship with people is not that easy, we must learn or know how to deal with them. We should respect them regardless of their cultural background and minorities, of what and who they are, it’s either they are rich or poor, young or old, or a reason with high authority or not.
Socialization is important, basically because it is the process by which human beings as material organism living together with other material organisms must learn to pattern their behavior, and adapt it to ways of acting that are considered appropriate to the society in which they live. Basically, it’s how you learn how to act.
Socialization goes hand in hand with enculturation, which is the process by which human beings as intelligent, reflexive creatures living together with other similar organisms must pattern they way of thinking and feeling and adapt it to the ways of thinking and feeling in their society. Pretty much how people learn how to think and feel about certain actions.
To be good in contact with others, we need to be sensible enough and be considerate with the feelings of others, most of all, be you.

Prohibited Drugs Leads You to Death
By: Grace Quialquial

It is doleful to think that using and pushing prohibited drugs are very rampant in today’s changing world. Undeniably, it is one of the biggest social problems that our country is now facing of. Prohibition of drugs has existed at various levels of government or authority, from middle ages to the present. But why is it that, still, this problem cannot be easily obviated?

Yes, it is infuriate to think that despite of the People’s awareness of how these dangerous drugs may ruin their lives still, they are taking the risk to gorge their urging need and wants.

Definitely, many dreams had been broken; time that had been wasted, and lives that had been led to unmeaningful one. But despite with such, many have still been influenced especially those young innocent children, specially, those orphaned and street ones. They are the victims of these harmful substances.

Yes, it is common for us to see pack of street children, huddled together, sniffing solvent from plastic bags because they considered these illegal substances as an escape to forget their negative experiences and to cope with stress. Even adult ones do practice this. But haven’t they realized that the more they feed up themselves with these substances, the more they accompany themselves into a more miserable and contemptible situations? Absolutely, these lethal substances wrap their thinking, eat up their flesh and lead them to death. Its chronic frequent use ends up in social and health-related problems. Thus, they deliberately ravage not only their physical body but mainly, their entire being as well.

What is really the root of the problem? Definitely, the very main reason is often found to the drug addicted families and communities. Truly, not having a nurturing family drives them to find solace in shabu, rugby, etc. For because they believe that it is the best welcome escape from emotional and psychological anxieties caused by their plight from which if not given attention and proper leadings, it will cause havoc not only to themselves but to the community as well. Persons who are being influenced by these substances tend to be law-breakers, violent, and prone to suicidal.

Can the government able to lessen this ever changing substance abuse scene? Yes, of course, they can. In fact, DSWD has embarked capability-building programs like “Nationwide Prevention, Treatment, and Rehabilitation.” The department also recommended that this topic should be included in the social curricula.

Together, let us joined hands to prevent this substance abuse scene. Let us not wait for the time that these young children in today’s generation are enslaved with such harmful and deadly substances. As what the saying goes “Prevention is better than cure” and so we should do our best and act now. Are you willing to cooperate with us? #

Should You Grab Every Opportunity?

Grab Every Good Opportunity!
By: Jenesa Oranio BSHRM-2

We entered college with grand dreams. College, figuratively speaking, taught us to be greedy with our ideals. As a student, we have lots of opportunities - opportunities to take all the risks for us to pass in our studies.

Students are all the same, we study; we get grades according to our efforts. Opportunity to look for a part-time job if possible, which helps us to send ourselves to school. I think, several of us are inspired rather than provoked by the desire to learn more than the usual. True, our country offers less compensation. Graduates here in the Philippines cannot easily find jobs. So people can’t really blame us if we yearn for international flights and grab the opportunity waiting for us there.

We have also the opportunity to love our countrymen; we love even if we are just giving to people our advices. We love even if we are just giving to the needed people our small amount of contribution. We care, because we love. Aside from loving our countrymen, we have also the opportunity to love our opposite sex because we know that it could change one’s life. This could determine if we are ready to handle a relationship. College life is different from high school life. You must be responsible enough and much more mature with your attitudes.

Above all, we need to be brave enough, despite all the trials that come into our lives. And someday, we’ll see the fruits of our sacrifices…we’re blessed that we studied so don’t lost all the opportunities, study hard, strive and strive until you succeed. Go all with your grand dreams. #

Why Should You Speak English?

By: April Jane Brocoy

Our school is more decisive now than before in spearheading the implementation in using English language to a respective area or zone within the school perimeter. Both students and teachers are required to use English in communicating to each other. But several questions arise, is it too good to be true? Is it attainable? Or the realization of it would be next to impossible?

To come across with this requirement is a sense of matter which needs to be weighed in a balance for this consists to a higher degree of challenge. Variety of considerations needs to be acquainted with before going farther too some specified elevation. Few are striving, others are complaining, majority are struggling yet mostly are asking. With regard to language, who is responsible in deciding what is to be used or not?

Along with this vein of truth, lines, opinions, point of view “Something Better” would be somewhat an instant answer to get the peak point in the center. This should be the watchword of all learners “SOMETHING BETTER AND HIGHER”.

English language is used in almost all affairs of life. To be equipped for the near future’s challenges, students must endeavor to ensure their capacity to resolve a change to explore and to experience. So why not make use to speak it now?

According to some teachers that this implementation would somehow almost impossible yet attainable, they said that if we make it a rule we really can do it. They added that this would be a great gain and advantage to the students who are willing to be trained and developed.

On the other side, other students said that this is not convenient for them for they find it self-castigating instead of self improving.

In pointing this most and top leading controversial implementation, let us look more on the brighter side of the issue. In the actual affair of life, self-improvement and self-discipline are not actually self punishing. It may appear frightening at the start in speaking English, yet in a long run, if we got use to it, we would be more satisfied than frustrated. In facing this conflict, those who take side in striving, trying, and obeying will find themselves stepping to a higher knowledge than those who take side in complaining and murmuring. On which side you wish to belong?

Many do not come up what they might be because they do not put forth the capacity that is in them. With regard to life’s possibilities, who is capable of deciding what is great and what is small?

Let us be more courageous to comprehend the difference between IMPOSSIBLE and POSSIBLE which lies in a person’s determination.

Definitely, if we are determined to learn more in English language then, we should fix a goal for ourselves. After fixing it up, we then can consider ourselves extremely fortunate for we have taken our first move that will lead us to success.

Campaign Against Illegal Drugs Intensified

By: Ulysses Intua

Through the initiative of the Supreme Student Council (SSC) of Aces Tagum College, a symposium on RA 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2008 was held last September 17, 2008 at ATC Assembly Hall.

According to Mr. Rene B. Milan, SSC President, that the said activity was prepared to educate the students about the dangers of using prohibited drugs and the ways on how to fight against its urge.

They also prepared different events like on the spot essay writing contest, poster-slogan, and team building. This was done to convey the importance of sports and other physical and mental activities to avoid engaging into illegal drugs as disclosed by Mr. Milan.

Personnel from Tagum City Police Office headed the said symposium. SPO2 Corsino L Luengas, Spokesperson of Anti Drug Abuse Campaign, TCPO, emphasized the importance of the said event by pointing out the dangers of using prohibited drugs like committing suicide, teen-age mental illness, unwanted pregnancy, accident, and sexually transmitted diseases.

He stressed that these can be avoided if proper information dissemination should be done like a symposium. With that end, the Local Government Unit of Tagum City intensifies the campaign against the use of illegal drugs in different establishments as well as the schools and universities.

Moreover, he further put emphasis on the role of the parents in helping their children not to get involved in using prohibited drugs. He mentioned the so called “quality time” as inappropriate and inadequate because the tendency would be that the young ones will find for confidants and companions outside their homes who sometimes happened to be a bad influence and will pressure them to abuse drugs.

He also added based on the recent surveys that illegal drugs is now the most profitable underground business that captive market of about 190 million addicts and users worldwide. It also estimated to be worth more than 400 billion dollars a year, bigger than the oil and gas trade, longer than the chemicals and pharmaceuticals business, and twice as big as the motor vehicle industry.
In most cases, according to SPO2 Luengas that the causes of this problem are peer pressures, family troubles, financial problems, and lack of parental guidance. He said that this dilemma could be avoided if we chose our friends wisely. ”Take what is good and cast away what is bad,” he concluded.
