TESDA Update:

TESDA to Pursue TechVoc Programs in Mindanao
By: Michael M. Pateres

Technical-vocational training programs of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Mindanao will continue as have been programmed for the rest of the year despite the sensitive conflict situations.

This assurance of continuity in the delivery of TechVoc programs and services in Mindanao was made by Secretary Augusto “Boboy” Syjuco, TESDA director general

Technical-vocational training programs, adds Secretary Syjuco, are available in four training modalities, namely, school-based, center-based, enterprise-based and community-based programs.

Assessment and certification of workers’ competencies will also be pursued by TESDA in Mindanao. To encourage more middle-level workers to sit for skills assessment and certification, the free assessment service of TESDA (FAST) will be made available to them.

Scholarships under the PGMA-Training for Work Scholarships and Private Education Students Financial Assistance Program (PESFA) are available to Mindanaons. The scholarships, either full or partial, pay for the training costs for finishing courses in high demand jobs in the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector and other industries with critical skills requirements.
In the wake of the current peace and order situation in Mindanao, Secretary Syjuco established a crisis management system for Mindanao to insure continuity in the delivery of training services in convergence with TESDA partners.
